Summary: He scared me. He thrilled me. And after one touch, all I could think about was getting more…

Makayla never thought she’d set foot in an underground mixed-martial arts club. But if anyone needs a medic on hand, it’s these guys. Trouble is, at her first sight of the club’s owner she’s the one feeling breathless.
All sleek muscle and restrained power, the man they call Torment plays to win at any cost. Whether it’s in the ring or in the bedroom, he knows exactly when to use a soft touch and when to launch a full-on assault. He always knows just how far he can push. And he’s about to tempt Makayla in ways she never imagined…
Review: Against the Ropes is an okay read that is easy and at many points enjoyable but contains some rather loose plot points and irritating characters. The story kept me interested for the most part but it a lot of times felt as if there was a whole lot thrown in the pot to see what stuck and everything was sticking. I did however find some of the plot elements to be a little bit unbelievable, such as the student loan collector, no professional would act that way and the entire scenario seemed ridiculous. Also the love interest was just this side of too perfect and it just seemed a little ridiculous and his personality seemed to be all over the place. I was looking for more development from him but it never happened.
Mac, the main character, was a lot of the time rather irritating. She was supposedly pre-med and a volunteer EMT but blood made her queasy, which seemed weird. She also seemed to be one of those every girls who has lots of imperfections but everyone still loves her and men fall over themselves for her, which just started to get irritating after awhile. I really wish there had been more to her character. There were many elements that brought the book into the realm of non-reality at times. I did however really enjoy the MMA fighting portions and I wish there had been a greater focus on that aspect of the plot. Overall an okay read.
