TOUR: Forever My Girl by Heidi McLaughlin

Thursday, April 11, 2013

Synopsis: I was never supposed to be a rock star. I had my life all planned out for me. Play football in college. Go to the NFL. Marry my high school sweetheart and live happily ever after.

I broke both our hearts that day when I told her I was leaving. I was young. I made the right decision for me, but the wrong decision for us. I’ve poured my soul into my music, but I’ve never forgotten her. Her smell, her smile.

And now I’m going back.

After ten years.

I hope I can explain that after all this time.

I still want her to be my forever girl.

Review: Forever My Girl by Heidi McLaughlin is a refreshing contemporary romance and unique among the many overplayed themes circling around NA Fiction. McLaughlin starts readers off with a very emotional beginning and I have to give credit to her for it. It's not easy getting the reader to feel the emotion that your main character is going through when someone we've never met has just died. That in itself says alot. I admit I thought that this story was going to be yet another hot rockstar romance with a predictable plot (although don't get me wrong I still like those), but I was pleasantly surprised with how much depth this story really had. I enjoyed getting to know Liam and his relationship or lack there of with Josie. I thought it was great that there was the tension of another guy in Josie's life although, I wish McLaughlin would've used it more toward the end. I think my favorite part about this book was the dual POVs. I'm not always a fan, but I really think it helped as a reader see everything that Liam was going through, and the decisions he had to make and eventually why he left Josie before. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I look forward to reading more from McLaughlin and the Beaumont Series.
