Natural Born Angel by Scott Speer

Wednesday, April 17, 2013
Synopsis: Life turned upside down for Maddy Montgomery when she found out she was half-Angel and was catapulted into the scene of flashbulbs, paparazzi, and the fervent adulation that comes with being in the celebrity Angel world. She's trying to juggle her ordinary life—high school, family, friends—with the intense demands of being in the public eye as heartthrob Angel Jackson Godspeed's girlfriend.

And now Maddy must face the most difficult choice of her life. She's been offered the chance to become a Guardian. This means entering into dangerous and high stakes training, with no guarantee that she can succeed. But more than that, it would mean leaving her mortal life behind—forever—and allying with the Angels at a time when their relationship with humans is heading for war.
Review: When I began reading Natural Born Angel, I didn't know that it was the second book of the Series. I contemplated whether or not I wanted to read the first one before continuing with this story. After a short debate however, I decided that I would just read Natural Born Angel. I am so glad I did. The author does an amazing job cluing you in in on what happened in the previous book without divulging to much of it into this book. To be honest, he did such a phenomenal job carrying over book one to book two that there was no need to read the first one. But I still plan on it.
I absolutely loved this story and how well Scott Speer brings growth to each of the characters in the book. It's quite clear that Maddy has the most growth throughout the book between dealing with her sudden fame, the way other Angels show their strong distaste for her, Jackson's ever growing distance, and struggling to remember why she decided to go through with Guardian training. The book is captivating from finish to start and I cannot wait to sink my teeth in the books to follow- as well as the first one!
