Real Mermaids Don't Need High Heels by Helene Boudreau

Synopsis: The only thing that terrifies Jade more than the ocean is dancing at the Fall Formal. Because Jade has two left feet—er, flippers. Who knew being a high school freshman is even more awkward than being a plus-size aqua-phobic mer-girl? At least her only drama is of the human variety...

Or not.

The Mermish Council has just declared that all land-dwelling mers but return to the ocean. Pronto. But there's no way Jade is going to let her mom, or Luke, her...boyfriend? mer-guy-friend?, disappear into the deep, dark ocean. Again. After all, a girl's got to have a date to her first dance.

If Jade can stop mer-mageddon, finding a plus-size dress that doesn't look like a shower curtain should be a piece of cake.

Review: Real Mermaids Don’t Need High Heels is the 3rd book in this teen series. But since I haven’t read the other to books –I would say that this is a standalone book but to get the full book experience I would read the other two books first. At the start of the book we are introduced to Jade and her friend entering freshman year of high school. The author made you fill like you were there with her description of the excitement and insecurity of life in high school. If high school is not exciting enough than there is the back-story of trouble in the mermaid community. But Jade is a wonderful character and so are her friends as they conquer high school and the mermaid council .

Real Mermaids Don’t Need High Heels is a fun read. This book would be great to share between yourself and your teen daughter. If you enjoyed this book try the other books about Jade and her mermaid friends.
