Let the Games Begin...

Spymaster Sebastian Danvers, Earl of Somerton, is famous for his cunning. Few can outwit him and even fewer dare challenge him-until now. After returning to his country estate, his no-nonsense neighbor turns her seductive wiles on him- but why would a respectable widow like Catherine risk scandal for a few passionate nights in his bed?

Review: This book is a historical romantic thriller –meaning not only is it a historical romance novel but also a suspense novel. It all starts with a set of letters and Catherine asking questions about her late husband’s death. These questions lead to more questions and the quest for answer is what brings our main characters together. This is the background plot for our story the hunting for answered and the spy game of the time.

My main problem with the book is with the characters of Catherine and Sebastian. I never felt that the two belonged together. She is happy on her country running her country estate and raising her daughter. He a lord and run Nexus an organization over spies looking into problems with France. He seemed very cold a distance –she seemed week and happier with simpler things. This made the book drag in parts and only the last chapters of the book I felt they were in loved. If you like historical and a little mystery this book may be a good read for you. This background story of intrigues weaves through the story and we find answers to question best unanswered but we also find true love.

Checkmate, My Lord is a book for all of readers that enjoy a little mystery with our romance.
