Q/A with M. Leighton

Friday, February 22, 2013
Welcome everyone!  Today we have the lovely M. Leighton here with us.

A little bit about Michelle...
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, M. Leighton, is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you'll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren't roaming in that direction, she'll be riding horses, swimming in ponds and experiencing life on a ranch, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.

Q/A with M. Leighton

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

About 2 years ago when I sat down and wrote my first novel.  LOL  Before that, I never even considered it. I never wrote for fun or pleasure, or even really thought much about writing at all outside a "necessary in the work place" capacity.

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

It's as crazy and haphazard as I am!  LOL  In an ideal and highly structured world, I would sit down to write at 8 am and get my words in by 10 am so that I could have the rest of the day to do other life-related things.  But that's rarely, rarely, RARELY ever the case!  Normally, I sit down to write between 8 and 9 am and try to be finished by 4 pm.  It should never take me that long, but I get distracted by social media, e-mail and the other zillion work-related things a writer does.  Apparently I lack discipline:)  hehe
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I have to have absolute silence.  No television, no music, no talking.  Nothing.  Just me and the voice in my head:)

When did you write your first book?

I wrote my first book in June of 2009.

Which character from your books, if any, do you relate to the most? And why?

There's usually one character, most often the crazy side-kick, that I most identify with, and that holds true through most every book I've written. I'm sure there are many aspects of each character that is "me" in some way, but it's those funky friends that I most relate to.

If you could be any character, in any book who would you be?

At this point, probably Olivia.  I think the "why" part goes without saying:D  *cough*  Cash!  *cough*

Thank you so much for having me on today!  I loved being here and talking with y'all!
