Survival Instinct by Janie Crouch

Rescue My Heart by Jill Shalvis

SYNOPSIS: She never wants a hero…
After a tragic stint in the National Guards, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the past—the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.
Holly learned the hard way to never depend on a man for anything. Now, of all men, Adam is the last one she wants to see, and the only one she needs. Her father has gone missing in the Bitterroot Mountains and she could use someone with tracking skills to help find him.
For Holly and Adam, each with their ghosts, a trek this desperate, this unpredictable, and this intimate, will have its share of risks—including opening their hearts one more time.

REVIEW: Rescue My Heart was a fantastic read from the start. We meet Holly, newly divorced and back in her hometown, back where the one person she truly ever loved broke her heart. And when her father goes missing, the last person she ever wanted to ask her to help is the man who broke her heart, Adam. And though she didn’t want to ask for his help let alone see him, deep down she still loves him yet vows that she won’t give him the chance to break her heart again. Adam, a troubled man since he was a child, has returned to his home town after severing many years in the military. After suffering from PTSD, Adam finds a way to work through his struggles, throwing himself into work as much as possible. Training dogs to become search and rescue dogs and being the man behind the screen during search and rescues, leaving no time to date let alone a relationship. Not that he wants one anyways. Throughout the story, you watch as both of them struggling with their feelings, fighting against everything they think is wrong. I loved reading how the story unfolds and wondering if they finally bring down their guard to let the other in. I was truly entranced by this story and could not stop reading it. Between the feelings of frustration, guilt, pain, and heart break. This story also offers humor to lightening the story line as well as very mild steamy scenes. I loved every moment of this book and I have to say my favorite part has to be the very last scene. Even though I knew what was coming, I still loved it.
