Synopsis: Aria Rose, youngest scion of one of Mystic City's two ruling rival families, finds herself betrothed to Thomas Foster, the son of her parents' sworn enemies. The union of the two will end the generations-long political feud—and unite all those living in the Aeries, the privileged upper reaches of the city, against the banished mystics who dwell below in the Depths. But Aria doesn't remember falling in love with Thomas; in fact, she wakes one day with huge gaps in her memory. And she can't conceive why her parents would have agreed to unite with the Fosters in the first place. Only when Aria meets Hunter, a gorgeous rebel mystic from the Depths, does she start to have glimmers of recollection—and to understand that he holds the key to unlocking her past. The choices she makes can save or doom the city—including herself.

Review: Described as a mixture between The Hunger Games, Blade Runner, Matched and Xmen, Mystic City doesn't disappoint! I loved this story it was unique, mysterious and thrilling! Lawrence creates a unique, gritty and luminescent world inside a futuristic New York City. I am a huge fan of Xmen and I loved the idea of Mystics and the powers they hold. It is clear that Xmen had a large influence on Lawrence. He takes the prejudice nature of others against those that are different and goes a step further. In Mystic City, Mystics are drained by Aria Roses' own family. Humans and Mystics are at political war. The author does a fantastic job immersing you in the middle of Aria's world. The characters are wonderfully written and the story line is superb. My only complaint is Aria's relationship with her two girl friends is strange and seems really superficial which in a way works with their personalities but doesn't look good for Aria's character. Overall, I loved the idea of Aria losing her memory and the whole Romeo, Juliet romance between her and Hunter. I can't wait to read more about Mystic City! Lawrence leaves you on your knees begging for more. I would highly recommend this novel! If you're looking for the next great series, this is it!
