My Rating:

Synopsis: Toonopolis is a cartoon city that is home to the thoughts and ideas of all sentient beings in the universe. As the center of the Tooniverse, it acts as an other-worldly rest stop for these creations.
Gemini is a teenage human boy who is thrust into Toonopolis through his father's scientific research program. He loses part of himself in the process and immediately begins a quest to regain his lost memories with the help of his Tooniverse guide named Jimbob the Talking Eggplant.
After an altercation with a mysterious Shadowy Figure, Gemini's mission is changed, and he begins a new quest to defeat Shadowy Figure and protect Toonopolis from his nefarious destruction. Along the way, he meets new friends, discovers just how diverse and strange Toonopolis is, and learns lessons about compassion, forgiveness, redemption, and being true to oneself.

Review: Jeremy Rodden's book Toonopolis was a wild, zany and an insanely funny read! I loved all of the different toons throughout the book from Fluffybear who talks like an old school gangster to Rastamole who says things like mon, dat and little mama. Rodden's main character Gemini and his side kick Jimbob the Talking Eggplant are hilarious together! You couldn't ask for a more entertaining pair. Rodden's writing style is smooth and easy on the eyes. His break up between Gemini's point of view and Special Agent Mimic's, gave the story a surreal touch. Rodden also does a fantastic job taking the reader into the world of Toonopolis. He's detailed in his knowledge of how the Tooniverse functions and makes his creations believable in an unbelievable world. Personally, I have to say I loved Jimbob's explanation of TMed and the idea of c-space. Rodden certainly thought his story idea all the way through! I highly recommend Toonopolis to young readers as well as old! Rodden's world of Toonopolis will draw you in, literally...maybe?
